Kaduna State

Kaduna State is one of the seven states in the North-West Geo-political zone of Nigeria. It is centrally located and serves as the gateway to most Northern states. The State was created in May 27, 1967. Kaduna State is uniquely situated to service the other Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory. Consequently, the State has become a trade centre and a major transportation hub in the country. In playing this role, it has a network of roads that links it with other parts of Nigeria. The major ones are the Kaduna – Abuja road (linking it to the Southern parts of Nigeria), the Kaduna – Zaria – Kano road, and Kaduna – Saminaka – Jos (Plateau State) road. The State has about 9,500 km of roads, consisting of about 1, 600km federal roads, 2,200km state roads and 5,700km local governments (LGs) roads. The high-speed train between federal capital city Abuja and the northern commercial capital Kaduna began operations in July 2018.

Kaduna State has 4,225 public primary and 738 secondary schools. In recent times, there has been an increase in private sector participation in providing educational services in the State. As at 2014/2015, there were 1,392 private primary and secondary schools in the State. Also, with the introduction of the Universal Basic Education scheme (UBE), there is heightened demand for education by the various communities as evidenced by the establishment and management of primary schools by some communities in the State. The present administration in the State has demonstrated commitment in restructuring and repositioning the education system in the state. Since the inception of the administration, the education sector in Kaduna State has witnessed some levels of reforms and introduction of innovative educational programmes at all levels of education.
